Stephen T. Onesti, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a board certified neurosurgeon specializing in spine surgery and the surgical treatment of chronic pain. He served as professor of neurosurgery and chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences Center of Brooklyn, NY from 2003 to 2011. Dr. Onesti is Chief, Division of Neurosurgery, South Nassau Communities Hospital.

Dr. Onesti received his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Harvard College and his medical degree, cum laude, from Harvard Medical School. He completed his residency in neurosurgery at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center/Neurological Institute of New York in 1993.

Dr. Onesti has published many articles in peer-reviewed journals, and has given numerous presentations at local and national meetings. He co-edited a book on degenerative disc disease of the cervical spine.

Dr. Onesti is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S.). His professional memberships include the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and the New York State Neurosurgical Society, for which he served as president from 2007 to 2009. Dr. Onesti was selected as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor: New York Metro Area in 2010, 2012 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016.
